Armando Garcia Selected for University of Chicago Civic Leadership Academy
Armando Garcia, A.M., LL.M., Director of Health, Outreach, Prevention and Education (HOPE) at Chicago House, was selected for the Civic Leadership Academy through University of Chicago’s Center for Effective Government. Garcia joins thirty of the region’s leaders in the public sector, becoming part of the ninth cohort for this interdisciplinary program.
Garcia is one of fifteen nonprofit fellows, joining fifteen additional fellows from local government, who will be part of a program focused on improving practices and civic outcomes in order to encourage collaboration between institutions across the Chicago area. In an era of bills that target LGBTQ+ individuals, and where new HIV transmissions still disproportionately impact communities of color, a need for leaders informed about populations impacted by HIV is clear. The agency is proudly supports Garcia in their work with the Civic Leadership Academy as they begin a six-month program that will include classes, a civic leadership practitioner leadership series, discussions with Chicago leaders, and a week-long practicum in Paris.
Garcia has worked for Chicago House since 2017, before becoming the Director of HOPE in January 2022. They have led the expansion of HOPE services to St. Bernard Hospital, improving access to care for those on Chicago’s South Side.
