"I started as a volunteer at Chicago House in 1987 at a time when the stigma of having HIV/AIDS or associating with a person impacted by the disease was overwhelming. I learned a great deal about life and the need for compassion from all the clients I met. Many simply needed someone to reach out to them and treat them normally."
- Richard, a long-time Chicago House volunteer
Without the support of a dedicated corps of hundreds of volunteers, Chicago House would never be as strong, vibrant and successful in our fight against HIV/AIDS. Volunteers are the driving force behind the community spirit of compassion and inclusion from which our residents begin to grow and heal.
Chicago House volunteers assist the agency in fulfilling its mission by providing support in the areas of service delivery, special events, and administration. There are many volunteer opportunities available at Chicago House, and we can work with you on placing you in the area of service that best suits your interests and skills. Both program and development volunteers bring to Chicago House an enormous pool of talent and energy, and experience great personal satisfaction from the relationships they establish with residents, staff, and other volunteers. Chicago House volunteers know that the time they have contributed has enabled people with HIV and AIDS to live more comfortably and, most importantly, with a measure of dignity and self-respect.
Program volunteer opportunities include:
- Tutoring at the Family Support Program
- "Adopting" residents during the holidays
